Teachers’ Council
Empowering Teacher Voice Across Our Trust
At Waterton Academy Trust, we believe that those closest to the classroom should have a strong voice in shaping the future of education. That’s why we are proud to introduce and celebrate the Waterton Teachers’ Council—a collaborative initiative inspired by the Citizens’ Assembly model, designed to elevate the voice, experience, and expertise of teachers from across our Trust.
The Council is currently made up of passionate teachers, representing a range of schools, career stages, and specialisms. Together, they bring a diverse wealth of knowledge, perspective, and frontline insight into key educational discussions that impact our entire Trust.
Meeting regularly throughout the year—both face-to-face and online—our Council members have influence and shaped our strategy in relation to oracy, AI and reducing teacher workload.
Each session is carefully planned, with pre-reading provided in advance. Members are invited to share their learning and perspective with Head Teacher’s as well as Trust leaders.
This initiative is more than just a forum for discussion—it’s a powerful platform for influence. The Teachers’ Council works closely with senior Trust leaders, including the CEO and DCEO, ensuring that classroom realities inform strategic decisions at the highest level.
By fostering a culture of shared leadership and reflective practice, the Waterton Teachers’ Council is a shining example of our commitment to teacher engagement, professional growth, and trust-wide innovation.
We are proud of the work being done by our current council members, and look forward to the positive impact they will continue to have in shaping the future of education across Waterton.
Success is a shared experience—and through the Teachers’ Council, our teachers are leading the way.
