Positive Progress Celebrated at Cherry Tree Academy Following Ofsted Monitoring Visit

Cherry Tree Academy has been recognised for its strong progress following a recent Ofsted monitoring visit on 26th March 2025. The visit focused on evaluating improvements made since the last full inspection—and the outcomes are cause for celebration.

Inspectors noted that Cherry Tree has made significant strides in strengthening leadership and improving the quality of teaching and learning. Despite considerable staffing changes—including a new Deputy Headteacher, SENCO, and Designated Safeguarding Lead—leaders have maintained clear strategic direction. The implementation of the ‘Cherry Tree Academy Way’ has brought clarity and consistency to classroom practice, with a noticeable improvement in the learning experience for pupils.

The report highlights the trust’s effective support during a period of instability, particularly through the establishment of rigorous “Team Around the School” (TATS) systems. These structures, now embedded, enable leaders to evaluate strengths and areas for development more precisely, accelerating the pace of school improvement.

Inspectors acknowledged that many recent improvements are still embedding. Leaders are now better placed to close gaps in learning, with staff increasingly focused on identifying and addressing pupils’ understanding during lessons.

Attendance remains a priority, and the report recognises emerging signs of improvement in attendance outcomes. Leaders are committed to building on this momentum to ensure every child benefits from the high-quality education on offer.

Headteacher Adam Dawson commented, “This report reflects the dedication of our staff and the resilience of our pupils. We are proud of the journey so far and remain focused on the road ahead.”

Cherry Tree Academy’s continued commitment to improvement stands as a strong example of the impact of focused leadership and collaboration within the Waterton Academy Trust. The full report is available on the Ofsted website.
